Introduction To Judaism

This is an engaging year-long course for anyone wanting to gain a deeper understanding of Jewish life. The course will be taught by lay leaders and professional Jewish educators Hope Massar, Shelley Stern, and Kerri Robbins as well as by Rabbi Folberg. Preparing Mind, Body, and Soul for the High Holy Days

Join Rabbi Folberg for a series of Jewish meditation and learning sessions on the theme of spiritual preparation for the High Holy Days. We will begin with a short guided meditation on a theme of the Holy Day season, followed by a little singing together, and then a teaching on one of the themes of the Days of Awe. We will share this opportunity for de-stressing, learning, and community.

Sensology: A Cultural History of the Senses and Social Bias:  Cultural

In this class we will take a look at a new type of critical theory which understands the human senses as cultural constructions and not a matter of biology or physiology. If the senses are part of culture, they have a history, which we will follow by focusing on the sense of smell and how it has been used to marginalize certain groups of people, including Jews.

 

Transformative Ethics: Develop a Personal Practice of Mussar

A 12-week course alternates whole-group Va'ad (group class) with Chevruta (partnered study). Explore the practice of Mussar and Jewish teachings around the ethics of humility, patience, anger, forgiveness, and more!

How to Repair the World, Starting with Oneself: Mussar and Jewish Ethics

Mussar is a 1000-year old tried and true method of ethical behavioral change that can reduce stress and help mend relationships. Give Mussar a try at an introductory, hour-long class working with anger, designed to start you on the road to "taming the angry beast".

We’ll explore the Life Cycle (events and rituals), the Holidays, Jewish History, Jewish Prayer, Torah, Talmud and Sacred Texts, Israel, Ethics, and much more.
