Choosing Judaism
Whether you grew up a little Jewish or lot, in another faith tradition or none at all, we are all ultimately Jews by Choice. Wherever you are on your Jewish journey, Temple Emanuel of Tempe is here to support you.
Take A Class
Although each person’s journey to conversion is different the timeframe for conversion is generally about 18-24 months in total. For those interested in conversion, the first step is education. We offer several learning opportunities throughout the year, including our free Taste of Judaism courses which are offered both in the spring and the fall. If you decide to go through conversion, you will be required to take our Discovering Judaism course. This course begins each fall and runs for approximately 7 months. It is ideal for non-Jews considering conversion to Judaism, non-Jews engaged or married to Jews wishing to learn more about Jewish culture, and Jews looking to amplify what they learned about Judaism as children. During this course, we will explore Life Cycle (events and rituals), the Holidays, Jewish History, Jewish Prayer, Torah, Talmud and Sacred Texts, Israel, Ethics, and much more.

Have questions?
Rabbi Olshein hopes to inspire congregants to find meaning in Jewish traditions, both in times of crisis and at times of joy, and to empower them to create their own traditions. She knows what it's like to be unaffiliated, to come from an interfaith family and to reconnect with Judaism as an adult by "trying things on."
Whether you are looking to convert to Judaism or find new meeting in your heritage, we are here to help you on your journey.
